Belatedly... the Palermo trip, May 2004

I thought I'd put a few of my Palermo pictures here. Went there with Stephen a year ago, and loved it thoroughly.

Monday, Perfect for Culture

Back in the apartment after my visit to the temporary home of the Stedelijk Museum in the Post Office building. The original site is being remodelled and expanded. It seems Amsterdam is determined to be the world's capital city where art is concerned, with projects on a massive scale in progress on Museumplein, namely on the Rijksmuseum as well as the Stedelijk, it is set to become a serious pretender to the throne. Here are a few pictures I took there. I also visited the World Press Photo Competition '05 at the Oude Kerk (the Old Church). Being all about press photography, and the state of the world today, it makes for an uncomfortable viewing, with only very few pictures to put a smile on one's face. And while I respect and admire the work that singular breed perform, the idea of standing around, gawping at (mostly) other people's misery made me feel guilty of something. I didn't take any pictures there, partly because I was already a bit tired and getting impatient to get home and take a siesta, which I am about to do!

Sorry all, I seem to have lost all my pix for this post. Clever.

Lazy Sunday

Lazier than I'd planned - Finally dragged myself out of the house - it's been cloudy and uninviting till late afternoon - to go swiming in Zuiderbad, to find it closed for the Holiday Weekend (Whitsun or Pentecost). So I cycled on to Deco sauna, famous place, modelled on an old Art Deco store, with most of the original French fittings lovingly restored. That was closed too. Now back home, regrouping. No plans made yet, I'll probably hit the Warmoestraat tonight, or go to The Web.

South of Amsterdam

Went to explore Nieuwe Meer, large lake to the south of Amsterdam, in search of a nice secluded sunbathing area. Kind of found it, but it was a bit to chilly, despite the beautiful day. It must be heaving in the summer... I did make some new friends there, and we promised to stay in touch. I may even invite them over for dinner some time in the near future. They let me take their pictures too...

Sunday in the Park

Here is a link to the few pictures Rafi took on Sunday. Just some friends having a very civilised picnic at Richmond Park, no explanations required.
